Videos

こんばんは、みんなさん!(konbanwa, minna san!)

So, I have been watching videos from some of the people on Youtube who I am subscribed to and... Watching their videos is, well, kind of inspiring!
I used to make videos too a few years ago. They were poorly done and I didn't want to show them to anyone, yet I also wanted lots of praise for all of the effort I would put into each one. I stopped making videos just before my family and I moved, and I haven't done much to try again... But watching the videos of these Youtubers... Maybe it was the music they used? Or the video clips themselves? But suddenly I felt that I could do an amazing job too if I tried again...

I'm sorry to ramble on about things. I've been doing that a lot lately, I guess.

Well, I really don't have much else to say though. So, I'll write again on Monday.

Thank you for reading my blog and please have a safe New Years Weekend!!!
ありがとうございます!さようなら!(arigatou. sayounara.)
Have a happy New Years!!! \(^-^)/

No snow for Christmas...

こんにちは!(konnichiwa)
Hello everyone!

So, there was no snow for Christmas where I live... T.T Much sad.
I love snow sooo much!!! 雪大好き!(yuki daisuki)

so... Random 日本語! (nihongo)
Word: 優しい(yasashii)
Meaning: gentle, tender, kindly, considerate
Example sentence: 田中さんは心の優しい人です。(Tanaka san wa kokoro no yasashii hito desu.) [Mr.] Tanaka is a kindhearted person.

Ah, I like that word!

Oh, there's another "yasashii".
Word: 易しい (yasashii)
Meaning: easy, simple
Example sentence: 日本語は易しいですか。難しいですか。(Nihongo wa yasashii desu ka? Muzukashii desu ka?) Is Japanese easy? Or is it hard?

Well, two in one day isn't so bad. I'm actually really happy because I could mostly understand both of the example sentences when I was reading them! I hope that means that I'm improving!!!

Anyways, my goal this year is to become fluent in 日本語!(nihongo)
It's going to take a lot of work and I most likely will not become fluent in just one year, but It's important to have goals in life and I recently realized that I don't have any goals for myself...

Please support me on this journey!!!

Thank you for reading my blog! ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu)
I'll write again later this week! Bye bye for now! さようなら!(sayounara)

メッリクリスマス!!!(merry Christmas!)

こんばんは!元気ですか?(konbanwa! genki desu ka?)

I'm very happy today! Because this にちようび (nichiyoubi) is Christmas!!! ^-^

I like Christmas very much!

I'm very happy about that! And on top of that we are having a guest to our house! XD

OK, on to the 日本語!(nihongo)

Word: 石 (ishi)
Meaning: stone, rock, pebble
Example sentence: この橋は石でできています。(Kono hashi wa ishi de dekite imasu.) This bridge is made of stone.

There are two more "ishi"s in my dictionary so I'll list them also, but with no example sentences.

意志 (ishi)- means "will" (be weak willed// be firm willed// of one's own free will)

意思 (ishi)- means "intent, purpose, intention"

So! Here is a funny post from Maru-chan! ^-^

Also! DANCEROID was part of a flash mob!!! XD

So, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and I will write again on げつようび!(getsuyoubi)

(note to self: learn the kanji for the days of the week... 0.o)

バイバイ!メッリクリスマス!!!(bye bye! Merry Christmas!)

Time Management

こんばんは、みんなさん!(konbanwa, minna-san!)
How is everyone today?

So, have you ever had those times when you want to get something done and then you don't do it?

That's what I'm going through right now.

I wanted to practice kanji every day because I slacked off around exams, but I've only practiced kanji a few times this week... I feel kinda bad about it.

Don't get me wrong though! I listen to and watch things in Japanese every day! (For the greater part of the day.) So I have a high intake of Japanese every day, which is a good thing. The problem is that what I wanted to do I'm not doing as much as I should.

Anyways, moving on: Random 日本語 (nihongo) time!!! ^-^

Word: むく or 向く (muku)
Meaning: face;turn toward, look toward; suit, be geared for
Example sentence: わたしの部屋は南に向いています。(Watashi no heya wa minami ni muite imasu.) My room faces south.

I feel bad for only giving one of the examples when the dictionary gives multiple... but I can only hold it open with one hand and type with the other for so long before I feel like my hand is losing feeling! ^-^;

Well, I've taken enough of your time. I guess I should go practice kanji now that I'm thinking about it... but that probably won't happen! ^-^

Does anyone else not like peanut butter but find themselves eating it rather frequently? 0.o

Well, thanks for reading! ありがとうございました!(arigatou gozaimashita)
さようなら!(sayounara)

Late again.

Just barely this time though.

Hello!!! How is everyone? Good? Good! ^-^
Oh, you're not good? ... I'm sorry.

So, I don't have anything fun today... Just some Youtube videos.

terry歌Ver【ββ】Melody Line踊ってみた【るーこ+ラクダと亀】
【週末☆ディナーショー】Japanese Ninja No.1 踊ってみた
【みんなで】ぐーぐー 踊ってみた【代々木】  So cute!!! And ただのん is so funny!!! XD
Ah, here is one of the only American groups of singers that I really like. This is their first original song that they officially published! (Music doesn't start until, like 0:33 or something.)

Ah, I feel so undisciplined without school... I'll work on that this week. See you next Friday!!!

And sorry I didn't use any Japanese in this post... ^-^;

Bye!

ごめんなさい!(gomen nasai!)
I'm sorry that I didn't post yesterday! I have no excuse! v.v

So... My school is finally over now... So I'll be practicing 日本語(nihongo) more often now! Yay!

Anyways, I don't remember what I was going to post yesterday... hopefully it will come back to me as I type! So Until I remember, here is the random 日本語(nihongo) of the day!!!

Word: たけ or 丈 (take (tah-keh))
Meaning: length, height, stature
Example Sentence: このズボンは丈が短すぎます。(Kono zubon wa take ga mijikasugimasu.) These trousers (pants, slacks) are too short.

Ah, I love my Japanese-English Dictionary! ^-^

あの。。。Please enjoy random things that I have found this week!

Pomegranate

こんばんはみんなさん!!!(konbanwa minna-san!)

きょうわげつようびです!(kyou wa getsuyoubi desu)

あの。。。(ano...)

I have this thing with fruit, or くらもの(kuramono), that I kind of brought up in my post about Watermelon and Squid. Well, I love くらもの(kuramono). It's as simple as that. So, I was very happy when my mom bought me a pomegranate a bit larger than the size of a baseball! Well, I ate it tonight. All of it. (Except for the last little bit that I gave to my mom because I couldn't finish it.) So, now would be a good time to talk about food because it won't make me hungry!!!

So, about three weeks ago, one of my awesome friends made some kimchi-pork-rice cake stew type stuff. It was really good!!! It was my first time having kimchi too, but I like it!!! It was very spicy though...

Speaking of spicy: curry! I have had some interesting experiences with curry and because of these experiences, my above mentioned friend has banned me from eating curry in her presence.
But it's yummy!!!

Anyways, I'll do the random word from the dictionary with an example sentence again because I have nothing else to say today...

Word: しかる(shikaru)
Meaning: scold, reprimand, lecture
Example sentence: お母さんがいたずらした子供をしかっています。(Okaasan ga itazura shita kodomo o shikatte imasu.) The child who played the trick is being scolded by its mother.

So! Now that's done... Oh! We went to a used books store the other night and there was a Japanese book on a table that said "$1" so my mom bought it for me!!! I'm very happy!!! (Although I can't tell what any of it reads as, I can only pick out the kanji for large (大), beginning (元)... and a couple of others. Anyways.

Ah, I need to go to bed now. Thank you for reading my blog! ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu) See you next time!!! On... きにょうび!(kinyoubi)

Finals and after

こんばんは!みんなさん、げんきですか?(konbanwa! minna-san, genki desu ka?)

Hello again! I finished a lot of homework at the beginning of the week!!!
... So I slacked off the past few days.... T.T

Anyways, since it's the end of the semester, I'll be having my final exams next week! I only have four, so I hope I can do well!!!

Speaking of the end of the semester, one of my friends in Japan told me that the semesters for school are from April to August and then from September to February... I wonder, if the semesters are different, how will I study abroad??? (o.o)

So, anyways, after school gets out at the end of the week, I HAVE A PLAN!
I'm really excited! XD
So, my plan is that with the free time, I can study Japanese more because I haven't had time to at all lately!!! T.T
I really wanna study Japanese!!!
Also, I'll have time to practice the piano because I really need to. And I'll be looking for a job because I really need one... But anyways. I'm very excited about the break!!!

Oh, also I want to practice German with my mom (she speaks German fluently)! I think the amount of German I know is equal to the amount of Japanese I know...

Anyways, that's all for now. ありがあとうございます!!!(arigatou gozaimasu) Thank you so much for reading!!! I hope that soon I will be able to improve and use better Japanese (and more) in these posts!!!

さようなら!(sayounara)

Oh, one more thing! Check out this amazing Japanese beatboxer!!! XD

Well, not much Japanese stuff today... hopefully I will have something fun to share or tell you on Friday! I'll see you then! Sayounara!

ラムネ(ramune)

こんばんは!!!(konbanwa)

Today was an interesting day. My computer was having some issues, but thanks to my amazing-awesome brother, I think it's fixed!!! XD

So, today I want to show you one of my favorite Japanese drinks!

ラムね!(ramune)

Ramune is a Japanese soda. The really interesting part is that it's a glass bottle and what seals it is a little marble, so once you push the marble in you can drink it! But you can't close it. It's really fun!!! It comes with directions on how to open it too, so those people like me can know what they're doing. ^-^

I got this when I went shopping with one of my very good friends and her sister this week (I met her sister for the first time then). It's been so long since I found one!!! Anyways, I wonder if I'll drink it soon... ^-^; This one is Melon flavored! They also have Strawberry and Original. I've seen a few other types here in America, but I didn't really like them and I can't remember what they are anyways.

Well, that's all for today!!! Thank you for reading! ありがとうございます! (arigatou gozaimasu)

Um...

こんばんは、みんなさん。。。(konbanwa, minna-san...)
おげんきですか?(ogenki desu ka?)
aaaaa..... I don't wanna do anything today.......

In the famous words of Yukari-sensei: "Maybe I should stop................. thinking....................."

This week is my Thanksgiving break, so I don't have school all week! Ah, how nice it is to sleep in...... I set a new record for myself in sleeping in! I slept until 10 AM.

0.o

Inner self: "Oh no! This is bad!!! I can't sleep in that long!!! What happened to that plan for getting all my homework done?! AAAAaaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Hmmmmm, at ten in the morning here it would beeee.... midnight... in Japan.... I think.
There I go thinking again... XD

Um, ya, so that won't be happening again.

So, tomorrow I'm meeting with a very good friend of mine! We haven't seen each other in a while so, it will most definitely be fun!!!

Ahhhh... what to wear.....

Anyways! I'm getting tired even though I slept in so long, so I'll be off to bed now!

Thank you for reading even though I talked about randomness today! ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu)

Good night!!! おやすみなさい!(oyasumi nasai!)

(Oh, speaking of times, it's just after 10 PM on Monday right now, so it's just after noon on Tuesday in Japan! ^-^)

New!

こんばんはみんなさん!!!(konbanwa minna-san)
げんきですか?(genki desu ka)

............................................................

I had a cold... All week.

Colds are no fun!!! Because all of a sudden you start to cough in class and you can't stop and people stare at you!!! I don't like to be stared at...

Anyways! I wanted to share some news today!!! My 兄(ani, "older brother") sent me something that I really wanted!!! He sent me the type of dictionary that my sister has!!! (If you remember, I used it when posting this.) It is The Japan Foundation's Basic Japanese-English Dictionary Second Edition. Ah! I'm so happy!!! It's new too and the pages feel soft!!! I love it very much!!!

OK! Time to open to a random page, point to a random spot, and share what I find!!!

まず第一に健康に気をつけなければなりません。(Mazu daiichi ni kenko ni ki o tsukenakereba narimasen.) "One should take care of one's health above all else."

.......................................................... Wow............................ How fitting......

OK, well I guess I should explain it a bit... The word being talked about here is 第一に(daiichi ni) which means "first, first of all". The sentence I shared is an example of how it can be used. In this situation, 第一に(daiichi ni) can also mean "above all else". I can see the connection between "first of all" and "above all else" so OK. Well then, that's that.

あの。。。(ano)

So, I have all of next week off of school because of Thanksgiving so I hope to study 日本語(nihongo) lots!!! But I also have a lot of schoolwork to do because finals are in... 0.o They're in three weeks!!! 0.o O noes!

Well, I'll post again on げつようび!(getsuyoubi) Everyone, please have a safe and fun weekend!

As always, thank you so much for reading my blog! ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu) If I have made any mistakes and you know the correction, please let me know! I would appreciate it very much!

For now, さようなら!!!(sayounara)

(Side note: To Kerryn, I meant to post a comment for you but for some reason I can't comment on things. Thank you very much for following my blog too! I hope we can both help each other learn Japanese!
Everyone! Please check out Kerryn's blog too!!!)

Continuous listening.

Konbanwa! Genki desu ka?

Hello there again!

So, I was thinking of what to write about today as I was listening to a song I recently found and I was surprised at how I could pick out words and phrases that I know the general meanings of. There were even phrases that I didn't know specifically but I knew the words in the phrase so I put the meaning together on my own!!! That surprised me! Of course they are very small phrases and fragments of sentences but still, I'm very happy with this small reminder that I am actually making progress in my listening skills as well as my writing and comprehension! ^-^

This is the list of phrases I could pick out from the song linked above.

"suki", "kimi ga suki de", "bakara boku wo", "arigatou", "itsu", "yoroshiku", "ai to ka", "nani", "tabeta", "daisuki de".

I want to be able to understand this song soon, so I will work towards that for now. I hope that I will become fluent in Japanese one day, sooner than later!!!

I'm sorry that there isn't much Japanese in this post and what is here is in Romanji... I got lazy. >///<

Thank you sooooo much for reading!!! When I look at the stats for this blog and see views from places like Russia and Japan, South Korea, Germany, the Netherlands, and many other places as well as here in the United States, that alone makes me one of the happiest people in the world!!! Thank you, and please keep supporting me by visiting this blog!!! One day I will be able to say that I succeeded because of the support from so many people all around the world!

Thank you once again! I'll post again soon! For now, sayounara! (>v<)/

結婚式 (kekkonshiki)

こんにちは!(konnichiwa!)

I'm sorry I didn't post yesterday like I should have. Yesterday was a very special day! Yesterday was my brother's 結婚式!(kekkonshiki)

It was his wedding!!!

(結婚式 (kekkonshiki) means "a marriage ceremony, wedding" according to my sisters Japanese-English dictionary.)

Ah, it was beautiful and I'm so happy for my brother and new sister-in-law!!! ^-^

御結婚おめでとうございます。(gokekkon omedeto gozaimasu)
(Congratulations on your marriage!!!!)

Takarazuka!!!

おはようございます!!!(ohayou gozaimasu!)
きょうわかようびです、でも。。。(kyou wa kayoubi desu, demo...)
Even though today is Tuesday I'm going to post because I want to share what I discovered!

As the title suggests, I discovered Takarazuka!!!
I'm talking about the Takarazuka Music School and Theater. And yes, there will be examples! \(^-^)/
From what I know, Takarazuka Music School is a very famous all girls school for music, dance and theater and all girls who attend can move on to perform in the Takarazuka Theater. Since it's all girls, girls play both the male and female roles in the plays and musicals that they perform.

I actually had been exposed to Takarazuka earlier on and I never knew it until yesterday. If you have read my post An Obsession... you will know that I love the anime Ouran Highschool Host Club. Well, in the 9th episode (sorry, here's some spoilers) the Zuka club comes to Ouran and wants to shut down the Host club because they believe strongly in feminine superiority (or something like that...). Well, the Zuka club was based on Takarazuka, so that is where I was exposed to it before I ever knew about it! Also, the "Zuka club" is actually a nickname for Takarazuka. (I think... in the Japanese anime it's pronounced "zukabu"and the translators note said that it was a nickname for Takarazuka.)

So, That's really all I know about it, but I'm looking up more about it because I think it's interesting and they are really good actors and dancers and singers!!! Ok, example time!!! Please enjoy the videos!!!

TAKARAZUKA FOREVER
Takarazuka: Ko Minoru/Yuri Hoshina on a Japanese Talk Show
takarazuka - Rose of Versailles Memorandam

Thank you very much for reading!!! And please enjoy the videos!!! I would put more, but I have to go to class so I can't... 0.o Anyways... ありがとうございます!!!さようなら!(arigatou gozaimasu! sayounara!)

Coming soon...

Hello everyone!!! I have a pretty good post planned out but I can't post it tonight so I'll be posting that tomorrow morning! (hopefully...) All I can say is please look forward to it! Thank you! See you tomorrow! ^-^

For now, please enjoy this video that is unrelated to anything Japanese!  \(^-^)/

きにょうびです!(kinyoubi desu)

こんばんはみんなさん!!!(konbanwa minna-san)
げんきですか?(genki desu ka)

Ah, it's been getting colder lately! Usually I don't want to wear an extra jacket and some gloves but the other day I was very grateful to have them with me!!! It was very cold!

And then we went and had ice cream. :D

Anyways, not much has happened this week... Unfortunately, with the end of the semester coming so quickly, I have to devote a lot more time to studying for my classes... It's very hard! I have a lot of trouble in my math class especially because my Professor doesn't explain things very well at all. So I'll just have to work extra hard! ^-^

I actually really tried in class today and I kind of understood how to do what we were talking about, but I went a lot slower than the rest of the class so I had to switch between taking notes on what my Professor was talking about next and finishing the problem we were just working on because my professor moved on without me (of course he didn't see that I was still working on the problem and I managed to finish it after that so it'n not a big deal). Nonetheless I figured it out, so that's good!

But anyways, I have a lot of studying to do from now on and it's gonna be tough balancing things I want to do and things I have to do. I guess I'll make it work, I always do. Oh, and I have an essay I have to write soon too...

Speaking of writing, I posted a review of the book called Totto-chan on my other blog and my mom told me that my writing style is maturing! ^-^ That made me happy! I hope I can improve my writing in both English and 日本語(nihongo)!!!

Anyways, I'm gonna go now. Thank you for reading! And if you want to share my blog with people I would be very grateful! ありがとうございます!さようなら!!!(arigatou gozaimasu! sayounara!)

I guess I should share a song before I go, so here you go!
[SS] S/mileage aMa no Jaku (Subtitled)
The lyrics and how happy the singers are don't seem to go together, but it's a really addicting song! I found this group this week, they're pretty good!

みなさん!(mina-san) Happy Halloween!

Hey there! ^-^

Today is Halloween! I dressed up in Gothic Lolita. It was fun and I felt so pretty!

So, at my school we're registering for next semesters classes and I have to pick out the classes that I want... It's really confusing because at first nobody even told me what was going on so I finally wrestled some answers out of my friends and some of the people who help with advisement. So I just have to piece together a schedule now and hope I can get the classes I want! ^-^

In にほんご(nihongo) stuff, I found a really adorable song that I want to share with you.

ステキな日曜日~Gyu Gyu グッデイ~ PV Full

かわいい!!!(kawaii)

I feel really bad that I haven't worked on my にほんご(nihongo) very much lately... Hopefully I can do a lot more this week and continue to improve!!!

Anyways, thank you for reading my blog! I really am grateful!!! ありがとうございます!さようなら!(arigatou gozaimasu! sayounara!)

By the way, Friday night and Saturday it was snowing!!! ゆき!ゆき大好き!!!(yuki! yuki daisuki!!!) I love snow!

Reading にほんご(nihongo)

Reading Kanji is a good way to learn にほんご(nihongo). You don't have to understand the characters right away, just become familiar with the characters used and continue reading them as you learn. Also, re-read as you learn the meanings of more of the Kanji. ^-^ I'll post some of my favorite にほんご(nihongo) sites/blogs for you to look at!

Kozue-chan's Blog!
Ikura-san's Blog!

^-^ Enjoy! And sorry there's not much Japanese in this post... I'll have another post for Monday!!! Have an awesome weekend!!! XD

マル・マル・モリ・モリ!(maru maru mori mori!)

こんばんは!みなさん!!!(konbanwa mina-san!)

おげんきですか?(o-genki desu ka?)

げんきです!!!(genki desu!)

I'm really happy today!!! Can you guess why? XD I'll give you a hint, it's in the title!

YAY! It's time for a video!!!

マル・マル・モリ・モリ!(maru maru mori mori!)

あああ!かわいいです!(aaah! kawaii desu!!!)

This has to be the cutest thing I saw today other than an adorable kitten that a friend sent me a video of! ^-^ Soooooo cute!!!

So, moving on, my awesome friend that I mentioned in a few of my previous posts who is helping me with にほんご(nihongo) told me about a site called Nonstop Tube. ( by the way, the link will lead to the Japanese one.) So it's pretty awesome! What you do is you copy and paste kanji that you don't know or that you're learning into the box and click the "youtube" button underneath it and it will play everything it can find on youtube that has that kanji in it non-stop!!! XD (another by the way, you could type in anything. band names, peoples names, random phrases, etc. I just can't guarantee the results...) So yes, that made me happy. And yes, that is where I found マル・マル・モリ・モリ!

Have fun with all of this! ^-^ And I hope you have a good week! I'll try to keep up with my studies! Thank you very much for reading my blog, I appreciate it a lot! And I'll see you next time! さようなら!(sayounara) ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu!)

... Speaking of my friend, I saw him today but he was talking with somebody and then I didn't see him when we normally hang out... and apparently he wasn't in class today... I hope he's not sick... D:

Eat. Your. Rice.

こんばんは!みなさん!(konbanwa, mina-san!)

Hello everyone!!! Today I want to talk about something very special to me!!!

Today was the first meeting for a club that I started with a friend on campus called Eat Your Rice!!!

It was so much fun!!! We hung up fliers this week but we were still worried that no one would come, but a lot of people came and I'm soo happy!!!

To give you a bit of background on the club and why/how it started, on our campus there wasn't a club devoted to Asian culture. The clubs on campus dealt with predominantly games and a bit of anime on the side. So, the first day I met my friend (by the way, she's the president and I'm vice-president) we were talking and we discovered that we both absolutely love Asian culture! She had said that she wanted to start a club for it because there wasn't one, and I had been thinking about starting one also, so it just exploded into going to get the paperwork and finding out what we needed and everything that we had to do to start a club. We both knew that as first years it would be hard but we did it anyways. And now, so many people signed up to join the club that we won't have any trouble doing activities or anything! Everyone was  really enthusiastic about it to! So I get a feeling that our campus needed a club like this and I'm really excited to finish the paperwork and start on activities!!!

By the way, our name, Eat Your Rice. It came from our brainstorming about the club. My friend said that there was a Canadian group who made videos of Korea and life and music there. The group used the name Eat Your Kimchi. So we were sitting there and I suddenly thought (originally as a joke) that we should use the name Eat Your Rice because all Asian countries that I know of eat rice and our club was to be an Asian culture group. So I suggested it and my friend loved it and the more we talked about it, the more I loved it too! So my friend actually got a hold of the people at Eat Your Kimchi and asked if we could use the spin-off of their name and they said yes! And everyone that my friend and I have talked to like the name too!

So I wasn't there when my friend was talking to the person to get the idea approved, but apparently all the faculty involved in approving clubs and such were also very interested in the club and they were really supportive. And we got a sponsor shortly after that. He's an amazing sponsor and he's helped us out tremendously!!!

So, It's been around a month and a half since I met my friend and we began this journey and having our first meeting, it's amazing to see how far we've gotten!!! I'm so happy and I hope that we can continue to have fun meetings and I hope we can do a lot of things together in the years ahead of us!!!

That's all I have for today! Since I was either working on the meeting or in class all day today, I haven't done any にほんご(nihongo), but I did slip in listening to a few songs and now I'm going to watch a few episodes of Lucky Star and relax because I don't have classes tomorrow so I can catch up on much needed sleep! Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!!! ありがとうございます!さようなら!!!(arigatou gozaimasu! sayounara!!!)

And a side note, yes, we did have rice at the meeting! ^-^ おいしい!!!(oishii)

Psychology

I love my Psychology class...

I love how late at night it is...

I love getting home at 9 at night and thinking, "foodfoodfoodfoodfoodblogfoodhomework...food"...

Anyways...

So! こんばんは!(konbanwa!)
Well, I am officially in love with a new song! It's by Tokyo Girls Style! It's super cute! I found out about the song from Kozue's translated blog! Thank you to the translator for sharing Kozue-san's blog with those of us who can't read にほんご(nihongo) yet!!! XD

so, there's a link to the video on her blog also, but I'll put the link here too!

Ah, that's all I have... I'm really tired so I should probably get to bed soon! ^-^

Thanks for reading and please have a good week! ありがとうございます!さようなら!(arigatou gozaimasu! sayounara!)

(By the way, I actually do love my Psychology class, I just don't like how late it is... well, it's only on Mondays so I can survive another 8-9 weeks! XD)

びくりした!!!(bikurishita)

こんばんは!みなさん!!!(konbanwa! mina-san!)

How are all of you lovely people today? Good? Good.

So! My awesome friend who's helping me out with some にほんご(nihongo) taught me a new word!!!

びくりした!(bikurishita)

It means "Oh! You surprised me!" or "You scared me!!!" or something along those lines. ^-^

さ!I'm going to give you a little example of how this word works. Since it's October, I'll do an example for Halloween. (Just so you know, I really dislike scary things. I can't handle them at all! So if you were hoping for something こわい(kowai) I'm sorry it's not gonna happen.)

Two kids are walking along the street in their costumes going from door to door "trick-or-treating".
Kid 一(ichi): "I wanna go to that house! there's a rumor that the guy there gives spare change instead of candy!!!"
Kid 二(ni): "OK! いく!(iku) Let's go!"
The two walk up to the house and knock on the door... no one answers. They exchange nervous glances and try again. Still, no one answers the door.
Kid 一: "Maybe it was just a rumor after all..."
The two turn to go and suddenly the door opens quickly and someone is laughing!
Both kids: 「あああああ!」(aaaaah!)
They turn and see one of their friends from school laughing in the doorway.
Friend: "Ahaha! That was really funny!!!"
Kid 一: "No it wasn't! びくりした!!!"
Friend: Ya! That was kinda the point!"

So, there you have it! A little example of how to use びくりした!

On a side note, I went trick-or-treating with two of my friends in my sophomore year of high school and one of my friends actually knew of a guy who gave spare change instead of candy! He kept his porch light off so you could only go if you knew about him! XD Ah, good times, good times... ^-^

Well, thanks for reading! I hope it wasn't to random and stuff! Have a good weekend! ありがとうございます!さようなら!!!(arigatou gozaimasu! sayounara!)

Let me share some culture!!!

こんばんは!(konbanwa)

I know, my post is a day late, well, ya...

Anyways, I'm gonna share some culture with you!!!

集団行動

My finding this video came about because I was reminded of this by a certain video my brother sent me! XD

OK, so in other news, I've been working on my Kanji lately! I was thiiiiiiiiis close to posting something about Kanji on にちようび(nichiyoubi), but I decided against it because I had to go somewhere... 0.o

So, ya. This is all for today! Please enjoy! Thank you for reading!!!

Anki!

こんばんは!(konbanwa)

おげんきですか?(o-genki desu ka)

Hihi!!! So! I've started learning Kanji!!! I'm learning the meanings before I learn how to pronounce them because learning stroke order, how to say them, what they mean, AND what they look like all at once is overwhelmingly much for my poor little brain!!! And my friend suggested I do it this way so i don't burn out right away. :D

あんお。。。(ano)

Ah! Anki! Anki is something you download and it's pretty much flashcards, and you can have a lot of decks or you can make your own and it's really helpful for learning Kanji and the rest of Kana! I've been using it for the past few days and I think it's actually helped me a lot already! A lot of language learners use Anki apparently.

Aaaaah... Have you ever had that really sad feeling deep in your heart when you finish a movie or show you absolutely love or you have to leave a friends house after having the funnest time with your friends? Well, I just finished watching Lucky Star again about 4-5 hours ago and that feeling is still lingering... 0.o

And yes, I love Lucky Star!

ああああああああああああああ。。。

It's the weekend! XD

So, I'll post again on げつようび!(getsuyoubi) Thank you for reading, as always! ありがとうございます!さようなら!(arigatou gozaimasu! sayounara!)

Midterms!

This week is MIDTERMS!!! 0.o

So, this weekend I studied my little tail off for my classes (Mainly working on my "take-home midterm" for history). So I didn't do any studying really.

I did listen to some music though! And I'll share it with you sense I don't have anything else today to share with you lovely people! ^-^ I've been listening to it and one of the songs from a week ago almost nonstop except for when I was reading.

【にゃんたろ】Game of Life ↑人生ゲーム↓ 踊ってみた【第八弾】

Have you noticed I've been sharing a lot of music??? 0.o I should work on my Japanese this week...

Ah, I also finished the book Kokoro last night! XD

Sssssooooooooo... I will have Japanese on Friday!!! It's a must! XD

Bai bai!!! Thank you for reading and please enjoy the video and song!

Some fun stuff!!! XD

こんばんは!!!おげんきですか?(Konanwa! Ogenki desu ka?)

Yay! I get to post again! I've been saving some cute videos and stuff for you all week! Here ya go!!!

【あすぱら】Kipple Industry Inc.キップル・インダストリー【気まプリ】
The dancers are so cute in this and the ending that they did was really funny! I hope you like it as much as I did!!!

【バビロン】『プラチナ』-shin'in future Mix-踊ってみた【1周年&誕生日】HD
I love how graceful the dancer is in this! She's adorable!

OK, those are the only YouTube videos I'll post for now, but I have something AMAZING in store for you! So, I mentioned in my post a week ago that I met someone who had said that they would help me with にほんご(nihongo). Well, he followed through with that and gave me some really good resources! And he showed me an awesome site that won't teach you the language but will give you pointers for reaching your language goal and will help you along(in a way). It's called ajatt.com ("all Japanese all the time")

One thing he told me was to try to immerse myself in the language. This is very important (as I read in the website I talked about above) because you are simulating being raised in Japan(in my case, but it works for any language). So, he suggested some movies for me to watch.Well. It just so happens that one of the movies he suggested was in the school library. So I checked it out and watched it and......................... It topped the list as my number one favorite movie!!! It topped Pride and Prejudice!!! No other movie has done that for me!!! The movie is called "Departures" in America(my friend said that the original Japanese meant "the Departed" but oh well...) and I highly recommend it!!! You can find more info about it in this link.

So, yes. That's what I wanted to share! I hope you find these fun and helpful!!! I really do recommend watching "Departures"!!! Thank you very much for your time in reading my post!!! I'll post again on げつようび(getsuyoubi) if I am able! And I apologize for not having much にほんご(nihongo) in this post...

ありがとうございました!!!さようなら!(arigatou gozaimashita! sayounara!)

Ah! One last video! 【にゃんたろ】Rotten Heresy & Chocolate 腐れ外道とチョコレゐト【Project】 Please enjoy!

Sooooo....

Ah, こんばんは。。。(konbanwa)

I don't really have anything to talk about today... This week has been rather stressful, so please forgive me for not talking about anything fun. y the way, My last post was on Sunday. I think it was pretty clear that that one counted for my Monday post so... I dunno where I'm going with that...

Ah, I did meet someone who has been to Japan before and they said that they would help me learn some more Japanese!!! ^-^ I learn languages better when I can talk in the language so this is really good!

So, I guess that's all for today, I have to see if something is installed on my lappy now. Thanks for reading!!! ありがとうございます!さようなら!!!(arigatou gozaimasu! sayounara!)

As a side fun thing because this post is a bit boring, I'll give you a link to more fun from Maru-chan!!!

Yay Stella!

You all remember my friend Stella, riiiiiiiiight? ^-^ if not, I mentioned her in this post.

Well, Stella recently stole my idea for this blog and started her own for Korean! (It's ok, technically I stole the idea from some vlogers XD)

Well, Stella was kind enough to link to my blog, so I'll link to hers too!!! Please check it out!!!

Have fun! ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu) さようなら!(sayounara)

Yay post!

こんにちは!!!(konnichiwa)

So, today I'll e talking about two things!

First! I was just practicing にほんご(nihongo) in the library the other day and I wanted to share what I wrote because I thought it was funny! I will not put the romanji in until the end because I actually wrote in parenthesise for part of it and I don't want it to be confusing... not that that sentence wasn't confusing, but... ^-^

Second! I finished another of the books I told you about in my post called ほんです(hon desu) and I want to share some of the parts that I thought were funny from that book!

Here we go!!!

....................................................................................................................................................

おはようございます!げんきですか?

げんきです!<3

あの。。。

きょうはもくようびです。あの。。。あたし。。。あああ。。。0.o

I don't have my dictionary with me and I haven't practiced my にほんご in a while, so sense I have the time and I finished reading for history and my math homework... ah, run on sentence that I can't tie together anymore... あ。

さ!。。。ココロ?kokoro? =0

くがつです!(It's September!)

Hm... maybe I should work on memorizing the months next... 0.o

あおいがすきです! <3

a ア i イ u ウ e エ o オ
my first katakana! >-<

・「おい。。。あなたはともだちですか?」
・「はい!ともだちです!<3」
・「やった!」

Don't know where that came from... 0.o

^-^ iku-suru-kuru! (go-do-come!)

...Don't know where that came from either... 0.o

....................................................................................................................................................

So! the romanazation of all the hiragana will be here in order of appearance in the actual... whatever it is, let's call it a note! ^-^

Ohayou gozaimasu! Genki desu ka? (good morning! how are you?)
Genki desu! (Fine, thanks!)
Ano... (um)
Kyou wa mokuyoubi desu. ano... atashi... aaa... (today is Thursday. um... I... aaa...)

sa! kokoro? (so! ( I was experimenting with how to write kokoro so the meaning is not relevant in this case. It has no meaning right now, but kokoro is one of my fav. words!))
kugatsu desu! (It's September!)

Aoi ga suki desu! (I like Blue!)

"oi... anata wa tomodachi desu ka?" (hey, you're my friend, right?)
"hai! tomodachi desu!"(yes, I'm you're friend!)
"yatta!"(yay!)

.........................

OK! So, in the post mentioned above, I talked about a book called Making Sense of Japanese, What The Textbooks Don't Tell You by Jay Rubin. Well, I finished it and I want to share some quotes from it! ^-^ enjoy!

- Ame ni furarete komatta / "Being fallen on by rain, I was distressed" / "Damn, I got rained on."

- "Pardon me, officer, but I've just been rareru'ed," you say to the policeman.
"Oh, sorry to hear that, sir, but what were you rareru'ed?"
"I was rareru'ed someody's having stolen my suitcase."
"How's that again?"
"I was stolen my suitcase!"
"What an odd way to put it!"
"Of course it's odd. I'm Japanese, and that's how we phrase these things when our English is a little shaky!"

-Well, where's the steak? It had vanished. Or rather, it never existed. I denied myself the steak, told myself that I was being good and doing the right thing by saving my money instead. I mentally enjoyed the imaginary steak to compensate for the unexciting act of handing my money over to the teller. Sigh.

- Amerika no kata desu ka / "Are you an American?"
Amerika-jin no tsumori desu kedo... / "Well, I was last time I looked..."

- ...Itadakimasu, meaning more or less literally, "I humbly receive." (Literally, it means to place something above your head or hold something over your head, a gesture intended as a humble expression of awestruck gratitude, but don't do this with your food.)

That's all! All of these are form the second half of the book because I didn't think to share them until I was past the half-way point. ^-^ I hope you liked them! If you are learning Japanese and you are pretty far along then I suggest this book. As I said in my post that I have linked to, this book is a bit ahead of me. It was very fun and educational despite my insufficient skill right now! So! Um... Ya, this is all for now! I hope you liked my post for today! ありがとうございます!!!さようなら!(arigatou gozaimasu! sayounara!)

おやすみなさい。。。(oyasumi nasai)

あああああ。。。 こんばんは(konbanwa)...

So, I'm tired. I got in bed and was about to go to sleep when I remembered I wrote something on my hand earlier, so I thought about it and realized that I wrote "Post on Blog! おねがいします!!!" (onegai shimasu)

So I'm laying here on my bed in complete darkness other than form my lappy. I'm sacrificing my sleep for you!!! XD

Anyways, I've been practicing some new words for the past few days so I may write another mini story on きんようび(kinyoubi)... Do you like the mini stories with にほんご(nihongo) words? I think they're fun to write so I'll continue writing them! ^-^

Thank you for reading!!! ありがとうございます!!!(arigatou gozaimasu) I'll post again on きにょうび!(kinyoubi) For now, おやすみなさい!!!(oyasumi nasai)

ピカピカする!(pika-pika suru)

こんばんは!(konbanwa)

Hello everyone! おげんきですか?(o-genki desu ka)

So, I have been practicing my にほんご(nihongo)these past few days and I have a new favourite word!!!

ピカピカする(pika-pika suru)

ピカピカする means "glittering" or "shining"! I like shiny things, so obviously I like this word (or is it multiple words... "pika-pika" and "suru"? but put together they mean one thing... and "suru" means "to do"...)

So, はい!(hai)

That's all for today! ごめなさい(gomenasai), this post is very short. Thank you for your time!!! ありがとうございます!!!(arigatou gozaimasu) I'll write again on げつようび(getsuyoubi) hopefully! (I have some down time between classes, but the computers at the school don't have the ひらがな(hiragana) setting on them and I don't feel like copy-and-pasting characters from Wikepedia so, the post may or may not have にほんご(nihongo) in it!) じゃまった(Ja matta)... I'll be going now! Have a wonderful weekend! さようなら!(sayounara)

(Side note: If you are awesome and know Japanese very well and you happen to read this and find flaws in my Japanese, please tell me! I still have a lot to learn and I know that half the stuff I write is probably a bit off. Thank you very much also for reading my posts!)

ひらがな(hiragana)

This past week I have been working to master ひらがな(hiragana). Well, I think I finally have! The only ones I have a hard time with anymore are ね、ぬ、ゆ、む(ne, nu, yu, mu). Aside from those, I can tell what they are after looking at them! I don't have to think so hard about them any more!!! ^-^ やった!!!(yatta) So, it's a pretty big accomplishment because it's taken me this long to learn them. I'm glad! Now I can move on to かたかな(katakana). Of course, I'm not going to use the katakana setting  in these posts yet if I don't know any! XD

So! はい(hai).

.............................................................................

Ah, I should stop procrastinating on my homework... Maybe my goal for this semester is to not procrastinate... hmmm, might be worth a try. Well, I have to get up early tomorrow so, さようなら!(sayounara) Thanks so much for reading again! And thanks for reading if it's your first time too!!! ありがとうございます!!!(arigatou gozaimasu)

An Obsession...

こんにちは!!!(konnichiwa)

So, hello there! きょう(kyou) I'm talking about one of my many obsessions. (There are a lot!) So here I go!

Ouran High School Host Club.

Ouran High School Host Club がすきです!!!(ga suki desu)

So, I really like Ouran! I love the あにめ(anime)! (I've actually never read the まんが(manga), but I've been told so many things about it: it's confusing, it's not that great, it's amazing, etc...) But I really like the あにめ(anime).

So, I shared the あにめ(anime) with my amazing friend who is learning Korean (let's call her Stella!)... I don't think she watched it when I showed her...

Anyways, a few weeks ago, Stella asks me, "Didn't you like an anime called Ouran High School Host Club?" That got me explaining how amazing it was. SO! Stella then sent me a link. This link is the amazing-awesome link that lead to the much happiness of...

Ouran High School Host Club Japanese Drama!!!

(Did I mention that Stella likes Japanese and Korean dramas?)

YAY! So, I fell in love! The drama is currently airing in Japan on Friday nights! (but I still have to wait for the English subtitles to come out because I'm not very good still.....)

So, I will share this joy with you and send you to the first episode!

OK, I'm going to do my にほんご(nihongo) lessons this weekend like a good おんなのこ(onna no ko) so please expect にほんご(nihongo) on げつようび!(getsuyoubi) (I can say that because I don't have classes on Monday! :D)

ありがおうございます!!!(arigatou gozaimasu) Thanks for reading, as always!!! I appreciate it very much! さようなら!(sayounara)

ほんです(hon desu)

こんにちは!(Konnichiwa!) Hello everyone! Yay にほんご!(nihongo)

So! At my school there is a pretty impressive library! It's become my home away from home because I spend so much time there. So the first thin I did when I got there was look for a にほんご(nihongo) section. Unfortunately, their にほんご(nihongo) section is not as impressive as the rest of the library... BUT! I am committed to reading every book in that にほんご(nihongo) section by the end of this school year!!! Well, it won't hurt to expose myself to にほんご(nihongo) literature and a few resources to aid in learning.... like the topic for today's post!!!

I found a book! ほん!ほん!ほん!(hon! hon! hon!)

This ほん(hon) is called Making Sense of Japanese, What The Textbooks Don't Tell You. It's by Jay Ruben who is apparently a にほんご(nihongo) teacher from what I've read in this book so far. Anyways, this book is really meant for someone in an actual class who has learned enough にほんご(nihongo) to move from textbook examples to actual にほんご(nihongo) literature and stuff. It's a bit ahead of me sense I've never taken a class... I am self taught and self teaching. So this book is a it of a challenge for me, but some of it I can grasp right now and that makes me very happy!

So, Along with that book, I stumbled upon Botchan by Natsume Soseki. In the research I have done on にほん(nihon) and it's culture, Botchan has been mentioned many times. I've always been curious about it. So when I found this, I snatched it of the shelf!!! And now I'm reading it! ^-^ Parts of it may have been used in tests that I have taken before because I recognize some of the parts. (Because for some reason my memory retains stories that I have read a heck of a lot better than it does historical facts!!!) But yes, now I am reading it! So now I will understand when they talk about Botchan in the "culture" or "literature" sections!

I also picked up another of Natsume Soseki's novels called Kokoro. I picked this one up because of the title. I knew already that こころ(kokoro) means the heart or the spirit of something, so I want to find out what this book has to tell. (I haven't started this one yet, but I started both of the others! ^-^)

So! That's all!!! Thank you so much for reading!!! ありがとうございます!!!(arigatou gozaimasu) Until Monday (hopefully!) さようなら!!!(sayounara)

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Oh no!!!

So I missed the post on げつようび(getsuyoubi)... I'm really sorry. It turns out that not sleeping well then waking up at five in the morning and being at school all day until almost nine at night doesn't work out too well... I will try my hardest to continue the Monday Friday posts, but I may slip up from time to time...

By the way, I started school yesterday! Wish me luck and good studying skills!!!

This will be the end of the post, I have some reading to do tonight. ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu) Thank you for reading my post! Until きにょうび(kin'youbi), さようなら!(sayounara)

二こねこ(ni koneko)

Once upon a time, there were 二こねこ(ni koneko). One was a little おとこのこ(otoko no ko), and the other was a little おんなのこ(onna no ko). The lived in a little box under a bridge in a big city.

One day, the little おとこのこのこねこ(otoko no ko no koneko)(0.o does that make sense? is that how it works???) decided that life in a box was not good enough. "ぼくは(boku wa) going to find other づおぶつ(doubutsu) like us!"

"どこ(doko) will you find more of our kind?" The little おんなのこのこねこ(onna no ko no koneko)(0.o) was worried about her only ともだち(tomodachi) leaving to a strange place.

The little おとこのこ(otoko no ko) was determined to find other ねこ(neko). "Up on that おか(oka) I saw something moving. ぼくはそこわさがす(boku wa soko wa sagasu)."(not even sure that is a sentence. Forgive me, I'm not very good at this yet! 0.o)

The little こねこ(koneko) left his ともだち(tomodachi) to go search the おか(oka) for some other ねこ(neko). As he neared the top of the おか(oka) he heard strange sounds. Then he reached the top. "Ah, here is the top! But what is this that I みる(miru)? Long limbs that flop around in different directions? And no fur? Could these be ひと(hito)?"

Just then, one of the ひと(hito) saw the little こねこ(koneko). As they walked towards the little どうぶつ(doubutsu), it ran towards the bridge, so the ひと(hito) followed. There, the ひと(hito) found 二こねこ(ni koneko) huddled together in a box. The ひと(hito) picked up the box and took the two little こねこ(koneko) to his house where they were loved and fed and taken care of for the rest of their きゅう(kyuu) lives! YAY!

...........................................................................

I hope you liked the story! I just made that up now,so it's not very good. Should I continue to make stories like this? do you, my dear reader, like the stories? or should I just talk about some random topic? as is now I do a bit of everything...

So I will be starting school on Monday, wish me well!!! I will be doing my best to continue posting on Monday and Friday. And if I miss a post I'll make it up within a week hopefully!

So, there's something about Fridays... I got sunburn again today. It hurts.....

Anyways, ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu!) Thank you once again for reading my post! I appreciate it! Until きにょうび(kin'youbi), さようなら!(sayounara!)

Ah, side note! I got lost looking for parking today so I tried to turn around and I accidentally knocked over somebody's trash can!!! 0.o So I pulled over and picked it up for them... then I checked the front of my car, no harm was done to the car or the trash can! I just now know how close I can get to objects before hitting them! XP

Music

So, my sister actually introduced me to a Japanese singer and cellist named Kanon Wakeshima when she visited a few weeks ago. At that point, I had never heard of Kanon-san before. The music that my sister shared with me was dark and rather Gothic sounding because that is the type of music she likes.I am not as interested in dark music normally, so I was unsure at first, but I grew to like the two songs that she shared with me.

In any case, last night one of the youtubers I am subscribed to "liked" a video of Kanon-san's. I didn't recognize her name at the time, so I clicked on the little icon and listened to the song. The song was eerie and beautiful and captivating! And the dresses are beautiful! (I love that style anyways, but they are very pretty!)That is why I am sharing it with you!

[PV] Kanon Wakeshima - Lolitawork Libretto ~Storytelling by solita~

I looked at some of Kanon-san's other songs and they are just as Gothic and chillingly beautiful. I admire Kanon-san because the music she makes is amazing.

Ah, I'm including the lyrics to the song in both Japanese (using Romanji) and English. Please enjoy!

English:

"I in my dreams"
A girls mechanism
"My beloved, can you hear me?"
Of a music box
"I in my dreams"
In a picture book
"My beloved, can you hear me?"
Waits for her

It's a crescent moon tonight
The scent of peppermint
Softly, the city lights
Adorn the lace dress
The dripping moon
Drops into darkness
Stops time

"The girlish mechanism of a clock's been stolen"
「Is the girl in her?」
"Turn back time"
「Listen carefully to the music box」

A magical carriage stops before her
What kind of world will it take her to?

"I in my dreams"

"Hurry"
Meaningless play
"Silence"
A waltz that buzzes in my ear
"Help"
A fantasy from which there is no return
"Stop!"
She can't hear
"Wake up"

A sky sparkling with diamonds
A castle of vanilla cream
The speed of the wheel quietly
Make a noise on the rails of the clock's second hand

A magical country spreads before her eyes
What world will she become a part of?

Wow, I'm really weird sometimes... Well, I'll have something better on Monday, so thanks for reading and I'll see you then!!!

Vocabulary

こんにちは!!!(konnichiwa)
Hello there! Yay! げつようびです!(getsuyoubi desu!) I get to post again!

...................................

So! Um, I didn't really know what to post about today even though I've been thinking about it for a while, so sense I'm working on expanding my vocabulary and I'm doing a review of 40 works this week (along with my amazing Korean learning friend :D) I thought it would be good to make sentences using the words... This will be entirely random because it is completely unplanned. Don't worry, I do this a lot... I'm a professional. (??? Don't trust that...)

I will use English for the simple fact that I am not entirely confident in my sentence making skills in にほんご(nihongo). I will list the words I used and their meanings at the end of the sentences/story so my dear readers can understand the "story" a bit better... 0.o Here goes!

There was once a おんなのこ(onna no ko) who lived an average life. She liked to eat おかし(okashi) and くらもの (kuramono) instead of やさい(yasai) and にく(niku) and さかな(sakana). Her mother told her at each しょきじ(shokiji) that she should eat properly. At あさごはん(asagohan), the mother would say 「おねがいします!(onegaishimasu) Eat your やさい(yasai)!」 Then at ひるごはん(hirugohan), the father would say 「おねがいします!(onegaishimasu) Eat your さかな(sakana)!」 And at ばんごはん(bangohan), they would ask her to eat her にく(niku). But the おんなのこ(onna no ko) would not listen. One day, she got sick. 「わたしたち(watashitachi) told you!」 her parents said. 「それらおかし(sorera okashi) made you ill!」 the little おんなのこ(onna no ko) looked at them and cried out 「どうしてえええええええええ?!」(doushite) The parent's sighed. The おんなのこ(onna no ko) felt very よわい(yowai) until one of her ともだち(tomodachi) came to visit her. 「こんにちは!」(konnichiwa) said the young おとこのこ(otoko no ko). He had brought some のみもの(nomimono) to help her get better. The おんなのこ(onna no ko) drank it and began to feel better. She asked what was in it and the おとこのこ(otoko no ko) said 「やさい。」(yasai) 「いいえ!いいえ!」(iie! iie!) she exclaimed. "But those can't taste as good as this!!!" So the おんなのこ(onna no ko) learned that eating properly isn't so bad.

おんなのこ(onna no ko) girl
おかし(okashi) sweets, snacks
くらもの (kuramono) fruit
やさい(yasai) vegetables
にく(niku) meat
さかな(sakana) fish
しょきじ(shokiji) meal
あさごはん(asagohan) breakfast
おねがいします(onegaishimasu) please
ひるごはん(hirugohan) lunch
ばんごはん(bangohan) evening meal
わたしたち(watashitachi) we
それら(sorera) those
どうしてえ(doushite) why
よわい(yowai) weak
ともだち(tomodachi) friend
こんにちは(konnichiwa) hello
おとこのこ(otoko no ko) boy
のみもの(nomimono) drinks
いいえ(iie) no

I wanted to use でわありません(dewa arimasen) in the last sentence for "isn't", but it didn't fit in with the structure of the English sentence... (sad face D:) Anyways, I didn't use all the words because I made this up on the spot and it's getting late.

ありがとうございます(arigatou gozaimasu) for reading! Thanks very much! Until next time, さようなら!(sayounara)

(Ah! side note! Maru is uber cute in this post! I didn't think to post it last Friday!)

Late Night

こんばんわ!(konbanwa) I guess it's a little late to be evening... hmmm... must look up.

Anyways, today's post is just random にほんごのおんがく(nihongo no ongaku). Um, I think that makes sense?... It's some pretty traditional Japanese music... Enjoy!

Sakura - Japanese Folk Music

The Moon over the Ruined Castle - Japanese Folk Music

I really like learning about all things Japanese, and as you know (if you read my previous post かわいい!!!(kawaii!)) music has a big influence in my personal life. I like the new music because it's exciting and intriguing, but I also like the older music because it is tranquil and calming.

Well... ありがとございます!!!(arigato gozaimasu) Thank you for reading! あばよ!(abayo!)

Watermelon! and... squid???

YAY! Watermelon はくらものです!!!!!(wa kuramono desu) くらもの!くらもの!くらもの!

I LOVE watermelon! Summer is the season for watermelon! Unfortunately, I ate too much watermelon tonight and now I feel like I never want to eat again... so now is a good time to talk about food and stuff. Because I'm not gonna get hungry from reading this...

So, Japanese food! I really want to try more of it! I have had Japanese candy and some Japanese pastries and... I've been to a Japanese steakhouse, I got sesame chicken. OMAIGOSH, SOOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!! (I love it!)

But my biggest problem with Japanese food is that a lot of it is seafood and... I... don't like seafood... So this complicates my trying more Japanese foods. I've never had sushi because I'm afraid of the raw fish in it, squid and octopus is just... out of the question... so I have a bit of a problem. Someday I intend to go to Japan and when I do I'm definitely going to have to try the Japanese foods that I'm afraid of... What should I do??? (you know you can comment if you want... yes, you reading this now, I mean you. ^-^)

I just want other peoples opinions on this, how to deal with having to eat foods you are unfamiliar with or that you think are insane. So I guess that's all for now... ya!

ah, I promised last time that there would be にほんご(nihongo) in this post, so I'll throw in some food related phrases from MissHanake's video which I posted in an earlier post called 0.o.

おなかがすいています(onaka ga suiteimasu)- this is a way to say "I'm hungry".
はらへったです(hara hetta desu)- this is a slightly more informal way of saying "I'm hungry".
のどがかわいています(nodo ga kawaiteimasu)- this is a way to say "I'm thirsty"

Thanks very much for reading this insane, unstructured post!!! ありがとうございます!!!(arigatou gozaimasu!!!) Until later, さようなら!(sayounara!)

...おなかがいっぱいです。(onaka ga ippai desu)- "I'm full" XD

かわいい!!!(kawaii!)

I told you I'd do an extra make up post for the one I missed, so here it is! I just found this! It's adorable and I love it!

【VOCALOIDミュージカル】Alice in Musicland【オリジナル曲】

I really like this not only because it's cute (which, it IS cute), but also because I am a very musical person. My mom actually has a Masters in Music Education, and she has always sung and played the piano. When she was still in school, she would be in musicals and operas at the college she attended. I got to be in some with her! And for classes, she sometimes brought home different instruments and my sister and I would try (and most of the time fail) to play them. As I've grown older, I depend a lot on music to help me calm down, or to focus, or to provide common interests with a person I have just met. I find that I like to sing, it makes me happy! I also like to play piano, but I'm only learning. One more thing I like to do is dance to music. If I'm at home alone, sometimes I turn on the music station and just start dancing. I've never had formal training for dance, but I enjoy that because I don't have to follow any rules and I can dance as freely as I want. Within the past year, I found VOCALOID for the first time and one of the songs I liked had a dance to it, so I learned the dance, and it's really fun! Being able to do a dance like that is addicting, so I've been learning more dances. I also started choreographing dances to other songs. Something about the music just gets to my heart and I want to be able to show my feelings. Weather it be through singing or dancing or playing the piano, one day I'll be able to show the feelings and emotions that I feel when I hear music. And someday, I may put a link to one of my dances or songs on this blog.

... sorry, I got a little carried away there! ^-^;

Anyways, I wanted to share the cuteness! Sorry there's no Japanese really in this post!!! On Monday there will be Japanese! Thanks for reading! I appreciate it very much!

Hallo!

こんばんは!!!(konbanwa!!!)

あの、きょう。。。(ano, kyou...) Um, well, I don't know what to write about today...

Ah! I can tell you what I learned this week! (I feel so smart! XD)

This week, I learned that to say something like "friend's name" as in "Your friend's name..." you would put a の (no) in between the words. の(no) is like... well, in the sentence ともだちのなまえはなんですか。(tomodachi no namae wa nan desu ka?), the の(no) shows that the なまえ(namae) belongs to the とまだち(tomodachi). By the way, if you didn't already know, ともだち(tomodachi) means friend. (that was one of the words I learned this week.) So, to conclude, の(no) links the object(in the example, namae) to the subject(in the example, tomodachi) or something like that.

Here's a better, simpler way to explain. This is from the site I've been using this week to help me learn:

の - Particle. acts like 's in English - whatever comes after it belongs in some way to whatever comes before it.
tomodachi no namae - friend's name
watashi no sensei - my teacher
nihongo no sensei - a teacher of Japanese

The site where that is from is Kids Web Japan! It's made for kids, but when we are learning a new language, we are all children in that language. The same goes for everything we learn or study or try. We will always start out as children.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed that! I had fun typing that to share actually! XD

ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu!) As always, thank you very much!!! I'll try to get my extra missed post in sometime soon. You never know, I might find something interesting, or maybe completely random!!! We'll see! さようなら!(sayounara!)

おんがく (ongaku)

こんばんわ! (konbanwa)

きょうわげつようびです... (kyou wa getsuyoubi desu) I'm beginning to realize that I tend to say the same things in にほんご (nihongo) all the time... that's no fun!!! I must learn more so that I can speak more!!!

Today's post is going to be whatever pops into my head. It has absolutely nothing structure-wise.

さ!(sa) 音楽が大好きです! (ongaku ga daisuki desu!)

Teacher: えええええ?どうしたの?(eeeee? doushita no?)
Student: I don't understand the lesson!
Teacher: Ah. In this case, you say 「わかりません」(wakari masen).
Student: What does THAT mean?
Teacher: "I don't understand"
Student: How can you not understand!

あの。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。(ano)

I have nothing to talk about today!!! :o

So, I'll leave this for now... I don't want to draw out my lack of topics for too long... Ah, but I just thought of this! ........... no, that's a bad idea.

Anyways, ありがとうございます!(arigatou gozaimasu) Thanks much for your time! Until later then, あばよ!(abayo)

Typing にほんご (nihongo)!

こんにちは!(Konnichiwa!) Hello there! わたしわ (watashi wa) posting again today! (oi, that sentense made no sense... ごめんなさい (gomen nasai)!!!)I was going to talk about 「でわありません」 ("dewa arimasen") and other forms of です (desu), but something even better to talk about came up!

One of my friends taught me how to switch my keyboard back and forth between English and にほんご (nihongo)!!! This makes adding in the ひらがな (hiragana) so much easier for me!!! It's fun!!!

さあ! (sa!) I only recently understood how to use 「でわありません」 ("dewa arimasen"), but I will try to explain to you about it. There are different tenses of です (desu). です (desu) is the present positive form. It's like saying "is" or "am" or something. There are past tense forms of です (desu) as well as negative forms.

です (desu)- present positive form. "is"
でした (deshita)- past positive form. "was"
ではありません (dewa arimasen)- present negative form. "isn't"
ではありませんでした (dewa arimasen deshita)- past negative form. "wasn't"

The examples that I gave in quotations are not exact because です (desu) does not really have a set meaning, it can be used to say many things. I don't know if that made sense, I'm not really good at explaining...

So lately, I like adding ではありません (dewa arimasen) to sentenses. It's my new favorite word/words. (words? XP) I'll just randomly think of some silly sentense like 「ほんわどうぶつでわありません」("hon wa doubutsu dewa arimasen"). It's fun to make sentences with! XD

さあ!(sa!) Anyways, this is how I learned the forms of です (desu). I hope it helps some. By the way, if I have made any mistakes, TELL ME SO I CAN CORRECT MYSELF!!!

ありがとございます (arigato gozaimasu)!!! Thanks once again for reading my randomness! さようなら (sayounara) for now!

Testing, Sister, and Random stuff

こんにちは! (konnichiwa!) Hello again everyone! I made it through one of the hottest weeks of my life!!! Yay!

So, a friend of mine is learning Korean. She is doing much better than I am at にほんご (nihongo), so I feel kinda bad... But we came up with an idea together for a way that we can help each other with the vocabulary of each language, so I hope that we can pull it off! It will kind of be like giving tests to each other, we just won't grade the best most likely... Anyways, it will be a lot of fun! And I'm looking forward to the practice as well as the fun!

This month, my sister will be coming to visit me! I mentioned that my sister had originally influenced me to learn にほんご (nihongo) in my first post, A New Chapter. Well, my sister knows that I am trying to learn it again and she told me that I will have to practice with her and help her learn as well! I will be going into にほんご (nihongo) learning mode! My sister let me send her some words to practice for when she gets here, so I sent her some colors:
しろい (shiroi), くろい (kuroi), あおい (aoi), あかい (akai), みどり (midori), ちやいろ (chairo), きいろ (kiiro), オレンジいろ (orenji iro), はいいろ (haiiro), and ピンク (pinku). In order, those are white, black, blue, red, green, brown, yellow, orange, gray, and pink. The way I learned to write orange and pink used Katakana instead of Hiragana, and I'm not sure why... I should look it up. I was practicing them when she was talking to me, so I just gave those too her.

I have been trying to make sentences that make sense rather than just throwing around random words lately. But most of them still sound very childish and incomplete... I know that I can't have full conversations in にほんご (nihongo) yet, but I really want to speak more than ねこわどうぶつです (neko wa doubutsu desu) and きようわきんようびです (kyou wa kin'youbi desu) and ほんわどうぶつではありません (hon wa doubutsu dewa arimasen). I am very impatient I guess...

Anyways, I have a lot of things to do today, not to mention it's lunch time! ありがとうございます! (arigatou gozaimasu!) Thank you for reading! I hope to improve, so feel free to tell me if I've made mistakes! Advise and encouragement is welcome! さようなら (sayounara) for now!

Happy Fourth!

Due to today's date, many Americans take this day to celebrate. I am one of those who will take today to celebrate American Independence, so please forgive the lack of Japanese again... Happy Fourth of July!

On a side note, I really dislike hot weather. It causes the biggest lack of motivation in me, so I will be trying to work on my Japanese this week, but unless it cools down where I live, the chances are high for another non-Japanese post... D: I don't want that!!! DX Winter hurry it up already!!!

Anyways, happy Fourth of July and sayounara for now!!!

Random

Today will not be a Japanese post.

So, today was my last day visiting my brother in Seattle. I had so much fun! We went to downtown Seattle and took a tour of underground Seattle!!! So much fun! I may do an extra post sometime this weekend with details about it. So, after that, we went to a place that sells Japanese style crepes! They're amazing!!! And they sold bubble tea there too, but I chickened out and got a melon slushie instead. I'm to scared to try the bobas!!!

We came home and my brother made the amazing semi-fettuccine alfredo deliciousness (my fav thing that he makes) for dinner. Then we watched a Korean gaming tournament for a little while and then I've been packing to go home sense then.

I'm sad to go because I love it here. So I will come back sometime and enjoy it again. That's all I have I guess. My flight leaves tomorrow... So I will definitely post on Monday!!! Bye!!!

かようび (kayoubi)

I messed up. I wanted to post on げつようび (getsuyoubi) and きんようび (kin'youbi), but きようわかようびです (kyou wa kayoubi desu)... So きよう (kyou) I'll talk about the days of the week. It's good practice for me, so here goes!

Obviously, げつようび (getsuyoubi) is Monday and かようび (kayoubi) is Tuesday and きんようび (kin'youbi) is Friday, but those are all the days I have mentioned so far. すいようび (suiyoubi) is Wednesday, もくようび (mokuyoubi) is Thursday, どようび (doyoubi) is Saturday, and にちようび (nichiyoubi) is Sunday.

You can say "Today is _____day" by saying きようわ_____です (Kyou wa _____ desu) or simply by saying _____です (_____ desu). It means the same thing. I have been using the longer way. Maybe I should use the shorter way sometime?

Well, that was fun! For me anyways. Hopefully I won't be busy on きんようび (kin'youbi) like I was yesterday. I'll see you then! さようなら (sayounara)!

Saturday, June 25, 2011

Hello there

It's very late where I am, but kyou wa still kin'youbi desu, so it's better to post this now rather than never. :D I'm not using hiragana for my nihongo today.

I can't say much for this week unfortunately... gomen, gomen... This week has been rather interesting, and kyou I just relaxed and forgot about everything.

This post is short and does not have much nihongo in it, I hope to begin to use more nihongo in posts soon. Hopefully, I can get some work done this weekend and then I will be able to talk more in my posts.

It's weird, I try to explain things, but even in these posts I am vague about details... gomen.

Thank you for reading, hopefully I will have something more interesting on getsuyoubi!!! Arigatou gozaimasu! Sayounara for now!

きようわ (kyou wa)...

こんにちは! (konnichiwa!)
きようわげつようびです! (kyou wa getsuyoubi!) That means I get to post again!
But I don't really have much to say actually... To be honest, I have not studied にほんご (nihongo) seriously over the weekend. It is not that I lack the time; I have had many distractions this weekend. So きよう (kyou) I am studying again. Yay!
I guess that those reading this have no clue about me at all, so I will share some about me for now. わたしわアメリカじんです (watashi wa americajin desu). My favorite color is あおい (aoi) and I will be starting college for the fall semester. I have been visiting my brother for the past two weeks, and I will stay with him for another two weeks. He lives near Seattle, WA. I have wanted to come here for many years, and I am grateful for this chance.
Well, I guess I've shared enough for now. I don't have much to write about currently. I will hopefully have something by きんようび (kin'youbi)! Until then, さようなら (sayounara)!
(side note- I was looking the other day at my previous posts and I noticed that on my first note I mis-spelled the ro-maji for "sayounara"! Oops! Also, feel free to comment if you have suggestions for me, any help is much appreciated! Bye now!)

Japanese slang

こんにちは! (konnichiwa!) Yay! time for another post!!!

As you can see, I'm trying to use more にほんご (nihongo) in my posts here. I think it will help me practice my ひらがな (hiragana) as well.

So, I was looking at videos of people speaking にほんご to see if I could pick out words or learn new words and I found a video about にほんご slang words. I became very interested in this, so I looked up some more slang words and I was shocked to see that a lot of them were actually very rude and mean things to say! What's up with that? I thought にほんじん (nihonjin) were very polite in their speech and manners... I do understand that slang is overall not very polite in the first place. I just thought it was interesting and I wanted to share that. There were many other slang words and phrases that were not rude also. Maybe when I better understand how to use them properly I will share them.

...I don't have anything else to say...

ありがとうございます! (arigatou gozaimasu!) Thank you very much for reading! さようなら (sayounara) for now!

Japanese Practice

So, my brother actually found this site the other day and I thought it was pretty cool. I'm talking about Maru-chan's blog! Maru-chan is only one of the most famous internet cats! I love Maru! But the biggest reason that I love Maru-chan is that Maru's blog has Japanese with English translations! I mean, I know that they're not gonna be perfect or anything, but Maru-chan has unknowingly given me a perfect practice tool! (Should I say, purrrfect!) So, I wanted to share Maru-chan with everyone! Please follow the link that I provide!

In other news, I worked up enough courage to ask one of the self-taught-Japanese-speakers that I really look up to a question about Japanese, but I don't know if she will answer me because she is probably a very busy person. Grace is amazing at speaking Japanese. AMAZING! She posts vlogs on YouTube, that's how I heard of her. I will include her YouTube channel also.

That's all for now... I haven't been able to concentrate much today because I've had a headache from my sunburn and right now some kids are screaming really loudly outside. Thank you very much for reading, and please support Maru-chan, Grace, and me!!!

Finding Motivation in the Small Places

Yesterday I was talking with my brother about projects that we are working on. He started showing me some of his projects (because they all have to do with electronics) and we were just looking through a bunch of stuff when I found a little slip of paper with some Japanese on it. I thought, "Oh! Maybe I can read some of this since it has some Hiragana on it!" So I looked and I could pick out a few characters here and there, but there were a lot of Kanji characters as well, and I can't read those yet... I couldn't figure much of it out, but at the very end of the note was くらさい (kurasai). This was the only word in the entire note that I understood, but for some reason I got really happy because I have improved in my ability to read Hiragana! A month ago, I didn't know half of the Hiragana characters. Anyways, this little word on the little note that was probably a pull tab of some sort gave me so much encouragement to continue practicing Japanese.

A New Chapter

A long time ago, my sister was learning Japanese. I, being the younger sister, wanted to be exactly like my big sis, so I picked up a few words in Japanese, but my enthusiasim didn't last long. I soon became bored and gave up.
Within the last year, however, I have found many friends who, like myself, are entirely fond of anything Japanese. I met a girl my age who taught herself Japanese and is very proficent in it! She, along with some of my other friends, encouraged me to continue learning Japanese.
I am learning that to learn another language, one must be committed to it. I have found that I do mot always have the motivation and determination that I need. This is one reason why I created this blog. I created it so that I can practice my Japanese. I also created it in order to have a place where I can speak my mind and be my random self.
Please support me as I work towards learning to speak and write Japanese!!! Thank you for reading!!! Sayonara for now!
